About Seth Upchurch

With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant families are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure.  The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-related expenses.  In Butte, Helena and Belgrade, volunteers are raising funds for COTA in honor of transplant patients like local boy, Seth Upchurch.

Seth is the son of Ben and Tammy Howard.  Born on March 31, 2005, Seth was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease called Progressive Familial Intrahepatic Cholestasis-type 3. Recent tests have revealed the cirrhosis from his disease has caused a small Hepatocellular Carcinoma.  The doctors at Colorado Children’s Hospital in Aurora performed a life-saving liver transplant on October 13, 2013.  An estimated $50,000 is being raised by volunteers.
